Mersing: the final frontier

There has been a lot of talk on the Eastern corridor, and how they plan on extending the highway all the way to Mersing. What implications is it going to have? Is Mersing going to change from a quaint fishing town into a hectic big city? Personally, I certainly hope not.

Also in the NST, it was quoted that over RM3b worth of private investments were literally going to pour into the town. For what? Reclaiming the coastline (which has been mentioned on many occasions in the past, and still has yet to be realized), and a round-the-clock 24h jetty (how many people want to go to Tioman at 4am?).

Mersing is the town that i was born brought up.. i will like to see some development in the town exspecially improvement in health department. I hope the land will still remain. no need for reclamation.. let mersing to natural....do not spoilt it ...

i agree! I think we should have more services for the people, but in terms of infrastructure - I think we have enough! I love how charming mersing is, and it should stay that way!

Maybe the 24 hour jetty would save Tioman from a much worse destiny: the airport runway to be built along the the coast, stretching from Kampung Paya to Kampung Genting?

Its very strange, everytime the govt thinks of projects, it thinks mega projects or large scale infrastructure which are inherently unsustainable (see KL, JB). Its time the govt think about the users (citizens and tourists) who would rather have a sustainable town, with good services. In fact tourists want a city which is green, walkable and environmentally sound.

To all of the above comments are utmost agreeable. However, I think that it's time for Mersing to have lots of other things that eventually will improve its economy and social as a whole. In order to achieve these goals, Mersing needs a large-scale development that will boost its more than 35-years old tourism industry, and thus will increase the GDP.

What I really need in Mersing is a marina for my boat and usage is not tide dependence.

Mersing really need the 24 hours jetty. we cannot depends on small boats or deploy rescue personnel only from Tanjung Gemok to carry out any seaborne rescue mission.
Some big project that can offer jobs for local youth.
